Industry-wide EPDs boost brand value while driving innovation. This case study looks at three trade associations that have worked with thinkstep to chart the path for industry-wide EPDs.
Life cycle-based EPDs have been adopted as a recognized tool for disclosing the environmental impact of products in all major green building schemes around the world. Just as nutrition labels are required on foods, we might someday see EPDs for all building products. With LEED v4 awarding additional points for products with EPDs, such products will stand out among the competition and are more likely to be selected. Industry-wide EPDs are a cost-effective way to help advance manufacturers in the marketplace while encouraging product innovation through the creation of industry baseline data.
